ISO 9001:2015 Update in Progress

The widely recognized quality management standard ISO 9001 is currently moving through its planned revision process, with ISO 9001:2026 expected to be released in late 2026. This update is being managed by ISO/TC 176/SC 2, the committee responsible for quality management systems, following a systematic review that highlighted areas for improvement.

The upcoming revision aims to better reflect current business needs and technological developments while maintaining compatibility with the Annex SL structure—the common framework used across ISO’s management system standards.

Key areas likely to be addressed in the revision:

  • Greater emphasis on risk management and business resilience
  • Increased consideration of digital technologies, including data management and process automation
  • Better integration of sustainability and environmental considerations within quality management
  • Enhanced focus on stakeholder engagement and quality culture development

ISO has indicated that no new standard will be published before 2026, with organizations currently certified to ISO 9001:2015 expected to have a transition period—usually around 3 years—to adapt to the updated standard once it becomes available.

We’ll continue to share updates on this page as more information emerges.
